What is Suya?

Suya is a spice mix of peanuts, various aromatics, and peppers ground together to traditionally marinate beef, that is skewered, and grilled to perfection. Accompanied with fresh onions, cucumbers and tomatoes, this dish has become THE signature Nigerian street food beloved by all.

Here at Brooklyn Suya, we have taken this dynamic spice and made it the star of every bowl created, using it on all of our various protein and vegetable options. Our goal is to offer new experiences and create memories with every bite!

about us

Brooklyn Suya is the collaboration of Chef Folusho and Chef Hema Agwu, “The Suya Guy”.

Folusho, a Nigerian native of Brooklyn, brought his many years of experience as a chef in the industry, his signature flair and industry know how. The Suya Guy, a Nigerian by way of Long Island, brought his signature Suya spice, that is used at the restaurant, and years of catering experience.

Brooklyn Suya represents a merging of the Brooklyn + Nigerian culture centered around what we call a Suya Bowl. Each bowl starts with rice topped with your choice of grilled protein, sides, cucumber, tomatoes, signature house sauces, and of course, your choice of mild, medium, spicy suya mix or, if your brave enough, atomic suya spice.

Unique and inspired by memories from childhood brought to the NY audience.
